Ruby Bailey is a South African multimedia artist who engages with contemporary technofetishism, using digital aesthetics to explore perennial themes. Through film, digital media, and installation, she examines identity, interconnectedness and the drive to {esc.} within cyber/nature/rave culture. Fascinated by the techno-body and virtual spaces, Bailey creates immersive landscapes that merge AI-generated visuals, hidden camera footage, and speculative collages, revealing liminal spaces where digital and IRL worlds overlap and bodies dissolve. Her videos Loobtopia and *Endlessity*, released on Metalabel, applies AI to lived experience to interrogate everyday conceptions of the real. Her recent residency at NIROX Sculpture Park, allowed her to develop Ethereality, a body of work that debuted at Everard Read Gallery in January 2025, featuring sculptures and paintings that materialize the digital through analogue interactive computers of steel and magnet, crudely encrypted nude prints, and landscapes of infinite digital recursion.
She has exhibited at the Carpenter’s workshop at the ICD Brookfield Place (Dubai), and international venues including London, Berlin, New York, and Hong Kong.
